Lately there’s been a lot of talk about Barcelona possibly looking for a suitable replacement for Luis Suarez.

In fact, just recently, Mundo Deportivo came out with a shortlist that included Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford. But for all his potential, Blaugrana should steer clear of him.

Suarez is now 32 and quite clearly, Barcelona will have to replace him sooner rather than later.

And sure, despite his age and the fact his career might be heading towards the sunset, the Uruguayan Pistolero is still very much an effective part of the Blaugrana squad.

After all, he has already scored six goals in a total of eight games for Barcelona this season alone.

Not to mention his overall contribution for the club; Suarez has played a major role in their success with his 183 goals in 255 games.

And looking at that list Mundo Deportivo were kind enough to share, Rashford is definitely the odd man out.

Not good enough

It definitely sounds like a harsh verdict on a player who’s still just 21.

Rashford is just one of those players that have been around for what feels like ages already and yet, this is still the very beginning of his career.

But the young Englishman has already had a lot of time to develop on one of the biggest stages in world football and his improvement seems to have stagnated just a bit.

This season, he has scored three goals and assisted two in the eight games he has played for Manchester United so far. He also tallied 2.6 shots, 1.3 key passes and one dribble per game.

These figures are not necessarily bad but they are also not particularly impressive or rather, not impressive enough for the Blaugrana.

Other than that, his passing is also sub-par since he only managed to maintain 71.5% passing accuracy so far in the English top-flight.

Of course, we have to take into consideration that United are struggling as a team since they are sitting in 12th, having only tallied one win in their last five games across all competitions.

That also must’ve had a toll on Rashford’s individual stats but he’s been with the Red Devils’ senior team since 2016 which means that he’s had a long period of adapting and showing his potential.

Even Jose Mourinho, the club’s former coach, doesn’t really believe Rashford can make it as a prolific no.9 for his team. Recently, when talking to Sky Sports (via Metro), he said the following:

“He is not the target man, he doesn’t score as many goals as a striker should do. So I think from the side you will get him to numbers of ten – 12 goals per season.”

Even though he is talented, so far he hasn’t really convinced and warranted the reputation of a worthy Suarez replacement.

Maybe in time, he gets better and then Barcelona will come knocking but at this particular point in time, the Catalans should steer clear of the young no.9.

واختتم: “لا يوجد أي لاعب أو أي أحد يتجرأ لعمل شيء يؤثر على اسم النادي، المباراة ستكون طبيعية وفيها 3 احتمالات إما الفوز أو الخسارة أو التعادل، لن يقبل أحد أن يفعل شيء يُكتب في تاريخه بالسلب”.

Tottenham Hotspur may have detailed a positive injury update, without actually saying anything about it.

As noted by Football.London, Juan Foyth’s name was not mentioned on the latest injury report by the club ahead of their away trip to the King Power Stadium, where they will meet Leicester City in Saturday’s early kick-off.

The club revealed that Ryan Sessegnon and Giovani Lo Celso were the only two men to be unavailable for the Premier League encounter.

Although nothing has been confirmed, the fact that he has been left out of the most recent injury list appears to be a rather encouraging sign for Tottenham and one that will provide Mauricio Pochettino with a boost.

The right-back position has been a topic of debate in north London over the summer following Kieran Trippier’s move to Atletico Madrid and it seems the Argentine manager has not been afforded the time to work out who is his best option in the position.

Kyle Walker-Peters started the season as the first choice, although that may have only been because Foyth was unavailable through suspension and because of the injury he suffered whilst on pre-season duty (club’s official website).

Serge Aurier has recently been used because the 22-year-old Englishman has had to spend some time on the sidelines as well with a hamstring injury, although it appears he could be in contention to return as well.

However, if the 21-year-old South American is available, it would not be a surprise to see him in the side. Last season, he managed to record figures of 2.6 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and four clearances per game in the 12 fixtures he appeared in.

Indeed, there will, perhaps, be doubts about whether he will be fit enough to play though, as he has not played for a few months and could be saved until Spurs go up against Colchester United in the League Cup in midweek.

Regardless of whether he plays on Saturday against Leicester City or not, it would appear Tottenham could have Foyth available to them in the near future, which will surely be a boost to Pochettino’s side.

The defender excelled against Manchester City last season in the right-back position and won plaudits from both Jamie Redknapp (Sky Sports via The Boot Room) and Micky Hazard for his performance in the role.

Having three players available and competing for that position will be excellent news for Spurs, even if Aurier does not think he has any competition.

Phillip Cocu has told The People he could have joined Arsenal during his career.

What’s the story?

The former Netherlands international replaced Frank Lampard as Derby County boss in the summer, but before becoming a manager, he had a successful playing career, winning four Eredivisie titles with PSV Eindhoven and La Liga with Barcelona.

He had been talking about those days as a defensive midfielder and said: “I was playing for my first professional club, Vitesse Arnhem, when Arsenal came for me.

“Then, halfway through my career, when I was about to sign a new contract at Barcelona, there was a second chance. But in both cases, the clubs could not agree.

“They have the bigger mentality” – Spurs fans come to blows after the North London Derby in the video below…

Cocu instead of Vieira?

The 48-year-old was with Vitesse between 1990 and 1995 before moving on to PSV and FC Barcelona. He would end up making 540 appearances between the two clubs and also earned 100 caps for his country. It is fair to say he was one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation.

Had he made the switch to north London, he would have no doubt improved the Gunners. However, his arrival may have prevented the signing of the legendary Patrick Vieira. The France World Cup winner joined Arsenal in 1996 just before Arsene Wenger was appointed as the club’s manager.

The two were defensive midfielders, and there is no reason to believe that Cocu wouldn’t have been able to produce the same level of performances in the Premier League as he did in the Eredivisie and La Liga. As such, Vieira’s signing may not have been needed at all.

What would Wenger’s reign look like without the former Juventus hard-man, or indeed the English footballing landscape as a whole?

Vieira had a huge impact on the Arsenal side, and was a part of the famous Invincibles. Would Arsenal have had the same success without him commanding the middle of the park?

Unfortunately, it is a question we will never know the answer to. But it is hard to imagine Arsenal fans crying over the comments. After all, in Vieira, they got their hands on one of the best midfielders in Premier League history.

The new 2019/20 La Liga season has barely begun and Real Madrid are already facing the same old issues they’ve been facing these past few years.

But the entrance to the new campaign hasn’t been all that bad for Los Blancos.

So far, they have tallied a win and a draw in La Liga and even if they wanted or had to do better since they did draw at home to Real Valladolid who finished last season in 16th place, there still must have been some positives to take from their first two bouts.

Be that as it may, the fans seem to have identified a player who they view as part of the problem.

Judging by their recent social media activity, that player is none other than last year’s acquisition, Thibaut Courtois – who has started both of their league games so far this season.

The Belgian goalkeeper found himself harshly criticised by the fans on his recent Twitter post.

Lots of Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they want James Maddison signed, after the Leicester No.10 grabbed a quite outrageous assist against Sheffield United.

The former Norwich man is reportedly a target for the Red Devils, and proved his creativity against the Blades with an outside-of-the-boot assist that a certain Dennis Bergkamp would’ve been proud of.

The 22-year-old recorded seven goals and seven assists last season in his first ever campaign in the top-flight, following a £20m move from Norwich, and also registered 2.8 key passes per game.

United have had a tough start to the season involving a draw with Wolves and a loss to Crystal Palace, which seems to have led to lots of fans on Twitter calling for the creative playmaker to be signed to bring more ingenuity to the side.

Everton have recently officially confirmed the signing of Fabian Delph from Manchester City following an impressive stint at the Etihad Stadium.

The experienced 29-year-old midfielder arrives in a deal worth £10m and signs a three-year contract that will keep him with the Toffees until June 2022.

The Englishman domestically won it all with the Citizens, even putting two Premier League crowns in a row into his trophy cabinet.

Apart from that, he has won 20 caps for England, playing a role in their great 2018 World Cup run to the semi-finals as well as being a part of the team that reached third place in the inaugural UEFA Nations League.

Leeds United announced on Friday that Lewie Coyle has left the Championship club to return on loan to Fleetwood Town until January 2020.

Coyle came through the youth system at Elland Road and has made 23 first-team appearances for the Whites in all competitions.

The 23-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan with Fleetwood, however, and has now returned to the club until the January transfer window.

It is difficult to imagine that there is a future for Coyle at Leeds.

After all, the defender is not exactly a spring chicken and has not secured a minute of action for the Whites since the 2016-17 season.
