Crystal Palace fans hail late Guaita save

A number of Crystal Palace supporters have been hailing Vicente Guaita after his last-gasp save prevented the Eagles from losing to Burnley.

Patrick Vieira’s side returned to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon following the final international break of the year.

Palace made the trip to Turf Moor to face Sean Dyche’s Clarets, with a thrilling end-to-end contest finishing in a 3-3 draw at Turf Moor.

It was 3-2 to Patrick Vieira’s side by half-time but Maxwel Cornet’s equaliser early in the second half ultimately earned the hosts a point.

It could have been even worse for Palace, however, with Guaita forced into making a big save to deny Chris Wood in the dying moments, with the Eagles’ official Twitter channel sharing footage of that heroic intervention from the 34-year-old along with the caption ‘Viva Vicente’.

Wolves fans happy to see Adama Traore leave

Some Wolves supporters would be happy to see Adama Traore leave the club after he was linked with a move to La Liga side Valencia.

It has been a solid start to the season for Bruno Lage’s team, who are eighth in the Premier League as we head into the final international break of the year.

The 45-year-old has done well as manager since coming in during the summer, but Traore hasn’t necessarily clicked with the Portuguese at the helm.

The Spain winger is still waiting to register a goal or an assist in the Premier League in 2021/22 and he has found himself left out of the starting line-up recently, while he has been questioned over his lack of end product in the final third.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur on Twitter, Valencia are preparing an offer for the 25-year-old as they eye up a possible move for him.

Postecoglou must finally unleash Moffat

While Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic side currently find themselves on a run of eight games unbeaten in all competitions, with seven of these results being victories, the recent injury to attacking midfielder Tom Rogic has highlighted the Hoops’ rather considerable lack of depth in the Australian’s position.

Indeed, other than David Turnbull, the 56-year-old Bhoys boss does not possess another senior option in attacking midfield, leading to suggestions that Postecoglou should look to bring a new forward-thinking midfielder in during the January transfer window.

However, before doing so, it may well be a wise move to take a closer look at one of the club’s extremely promising up and coming talents – in the form of Owen Moffat.

Having joined Celtic at the age of eight, the 19-year-old has gradually worked his way up through the Hoops youth sides, before being introduced to first-team training during the club’s 2020/21 campaign.

This season, the youngster has proven to be one of the star players for Celtic’s B team side, scoring 12 goals in the Lowland Football League, including a haul of five in a 10-0 victory over Vale of Leithen back in August.

Indeed, these performances have led to some suggesting that the midfielder deserves a shot in the first-team, while Callum McGreggor is also clearly a fan of the teenager, stating after Moffat’s goal in Celtic’s 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday during pre-season: “Obviously a mention for young Moffatt, his attitude has been first class.

“I remember watching him at the end of last season, training on the astro himself. Every day they would do finishing and I remember thinking ‘he’s got a finish on him’. I wasn’t surprised yesterday when it dropped and he half-volleyed it into the net. It’s brilliant for guys like that to come in and show what they can do.”

As such, considering Postecoglou’s lack of depth in attack midfield, coupled with the obvious potential Mowatt quite clearly possesses, it would seem highly advisable for the 56-year-old to finally unleash the youngster in the coming weeks, as he could end up saving Celtic millions of pounds in January transfer fees, as well as solving a huge problem for the Bhoys manager.

Eberechi Eze is a big fan of Patrick Vieira

Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze is edging closer to a return to full fitness and cannot wait to feature in Patrick Vieira’s new-look side.

What’s the story?

That’s according to journalist Tom Barclay, who also claimed the admiration is mutual between the player and manager despite Eze failing to make an appearance under the Frenchman.

The 23-year-old creative talent is continuing to work his way back from a serious Achilles injury sustained at the end of last season, although he appears to be nearing his comeback to the first team setup.

Under Vieira, Palace have played some entertaining and exciting football in the opening weeks of the new campaign after four pragmatic years under predecessor Roy Hodgson, and Eze is eager to play his part.

Speaking about the attacking midfielder, Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: “He’s massively highly-rated, really well-liked, really infectious enthusiasm, loves Vieira.

“I don’t know if you saw that video talking about Vieira, seems to really, really buy into his methods and his style of play, and the way he goes about things.”

They could form a formidable duo

Last season, no Eagles player bettered or matched Eze’s tally of six Premier League assists and he also produced the most key passes and dribbles, with average totals of 1.3 and 1.9 per league game respectively, as per WhoScored.

The former Queens Park Rangers man was also Palace’s third-highest goalscorer, bagging four strikes in his 34 top-flight outings for the south London club.

Therefore, the arrival of a far more attack-minded manager at Selhurst Park could bring out even more productivity in the final third of the pitch from the 23-year-old when he eventually returns from injury.

Vieira’s arrival could see the ex-Nice manager and the £18m-rated Eze establish a formidable duo in south London, and the club’s supporters could be desperate for the attacking midfielder to join the ongoing revolution at Palace.

Noel Whelan: Give Vlasic time at West Ham

West Ham United summer signing Nikola Vlasic will be a ‘great signing’ according to BBC Radio pundit Noel Whelan.

The Lowdown: Quiet debut for Vlasic

Following his late transfer window move to the London Stadium, the 23-year-old has made three appearances for the club and has started their previous two games against Dinamo Zagreb and Manchester United.

However, the Croatian only touched the ball 30 times in an hour of action against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, five fewer than goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and the lowest of anyone to start for David Moyes’ side on Sunday.

He was eventually replaced by Andriy Yarmolenko with the scores level at 1-1, with former Hammers loan star Jesse Lingard netting a late winner for the Red Devils.

The Latest: Whelan optimistic on Vlasic

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan has claimed that Vlasic will prove to be ‘a great signing’ for West Ham despite his peripheral involvement on Sunday.

The former Leeds United striker said: “Vlasic needs time. He had one opportunity and nearly got a goal out of it. He is a top-class player, we know that.

“It is important to take into account that he’s playing against a quality Manchester United side. It was never going to be easy. To come straight into a game against United is a tough ask.”

Whelan continued: “Vlasic has shown he is a quality player. West Ham wouldn’t have spent that kind of money on him otherwise. Give him time and he will prove to be a great signing.”

The Verdict: Time will tell

Only time will tell whether Whelan and West Ham are right regarding Vlasic. His disappointing short stint at Everton might not inspire confidence, but his performances for CSKA Moscow in particular show that there is a quality player in there.

He is only three games into his time at the London Stadium and Moyes may well be excited about the prospect of Vlasic and Michail Antonio playing together in the coming weeks after the Jamaica international missed Sunday’s game due to suspension.

The Croatian’s record in Russia, where he scored 33 goals and supplied 21 assists in 108 appearances, puts him in good stead to take his game to the next level under Moyes in east London. Whelan is right – give him time and he could come good.

Tottenham: Spurs eye Harry Souttar

Tottenham have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Stoke City defender Harry Souttar, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Souttar profiled

Souttar, described as ‘quality’ by Potters boss Michael O’Neill, is 22 years of age and stands at a huge 6 foot 5.

The Australia international has been with Stoke since 2016 and has made 56 senior appearances for the club, 11 of which have come during the current campaign.

He appears to be at the top of his game with a career-high £3.6m Transfermarkt valuation, and it seems as if Daniel Levy is willing to get the chequebook out for Souttar’s services.

The Latest: Scouting mission

Football Insider shared a story on Thursday afternoon, claiming Spurs are looking to pip Aston Villa to a deal for Souttar.

They were informed by a Spurs source that the club have sent scouts to watch the defender in action on multiple occasions already this season and are keeping tabs on Souttar ahead of the winter window.

The Verdict: Revenge on Villa?

Villa pipped Spurs to a deal for Caleb Chukwuemeka over the summer, and it appears as if the two could go head-to-head again in the New Year.

However, Tottenham have five senior centre-backs on the books at this moment in time, four of which are 25 years of age or younger, so a winter window deal doesn’t seem vital.

Spurs may like what they see in Souttar, though, so it’ll be interesting if they firm up their interest and battle Villa for his signature.

Jalat Khan, overnight on 92, scored his second first-class ton: a career-high 170. Sanaullah Khan and No. 10 Gauhar Faiz made useful 30s. Nasim Khan, the Quetta captain, was unable to bat. Faiz then struck twice, and his new-ball partner Nazar Hussain took three wickets to leave Hyderabad reeling at 56 for 5. However, an unbeaten 63 from Lal Kumar, supported by Hanif Malik’s 25 not out, kept Hyderabad’s chances of a win alive.Faisalabad’s first-innings lead was kept to 120 thanks to Jamaluddin’s unbeaten 102, but Peshawar could face the prospect of trying to battle for a draw on the final day after the hosts raced to 220 for 4 in their second innings in Sargodha. Overnight on 137 for 6, Jamaluddin, resuming on 28, held anchor at one end and strung together partnerships with the lower order. Bernardo Silva linked with AC Milan

Bernardo Silva looks like one of the players most likely to leave Manchester City this summer, with recent reports suggesting that he has agreed terms with AC Milan.

What’s the word?

After two fairly disappointing seasons for the Citizens, the Portugal international looks to be a prime candidate to leave the club this summer, especially after the £100m arrival of Jack Grealish.

City were trying to sell first-team players in order to afford a move for Harry Kane and whilst that transfer now looks to be off the table, it seems as if Silva could still leave, as journalist Ekrem Konur suggested that he has agreed terms with AC Milan, with conversations between the two sides ongoing.

Should Man City sell Silva?

During the 2018/19 season, Silva was a driving force behind City’s title win, contributing seven goals and seven assists in 36 Premier League appearances, averaging a superb 7.26 rating from WhoScored for his performances, whilst he was also named in the PFA Team of the Year.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-manchester-city-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Manchester City transfer rumours and news!”]

Pep Guardiola praised his performances from that season earlier this year when he enjoyed a strong run of form, saying:

“Everything he does, he does incredibly well. The year we won a second Premier League title in a row, he was unstoppable and now he is back.”

However, his performances have unfortunately declined since then and he managed just two goals in the top-flight last season, with his influence from midfield clearly waning, so it is perhaps no surprise that he is keen on a move away this summer.

Considering the 27-year-old is currently valued at £63m by Transfermarkt, this summer could be the ideal time to sell him from Manchester City’s perspective, as they can receive a hefty fee for a player who is arguably well down the pecking order when it comes to the wing options in Guardiola’s side.

[freshpress-quiz id=“577936”]

Therefore, after it was reported that he has agreed terms with the Serie A giants, sporting director Txiki Begiristain must ensure that City receive a suitable fee for Silva, before sending him on his way.
