Leeds United have endured a difficult start to the season on the pitch in the Championship and League Cup, and off the pitch in the summer transfer window.

Off the field, Daniel Farke has had a lot to contend with as some of his key performers from last season have either left or are about to leave.

Glen Kamara, Archie Gray, and Crysencio Summerville, who were all regular starters last season, have moved on to Rennes, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham United respectively.

The German head coach is now set to lose Georginio Rutter as well, after Brighton activated a £40m release clause in the French wizard's contract.

Meanwhile, the Whites are chasing their first win of the 2024/25 campaign after two draws and one defeat in their first three matches of the season.

They lost 3-0 to Middlesbrough in the League Cup last week and that was sandwiched by draws with Portsmouth – 3-3 – and West Bromwich Albion – 0-0 – in the Championship.

The summer transfer window is still open until next Friday and this means that there is still time for Leeds to make further additions to bolster their squad.

Leeds' interest in £8.5m centre-forward

It should come as no surprise to learn that the West Yorkshire outfit are interested in adding more firepower to their squad, with Summerville and Rutter moving on from Elland Road this summer.

Journalist Marc Mechenoua recently claimed that Leeds are one of the teams eyeing up a possible swoop to sign Hammarby IF centre-forward Jusef Erabi.

The reporter stated that the Whites and fellow Championship side Norwich City, who just sold Adam Idah to Celtic, are both keen on signing the talented young striker.

It was revealed that the Swedish club are set to demand a fee of €10m (£8.5m) for the talented marksman, but it remains to be seen whether or not either of the English teams are prepared to pay that.

Mechenoua added that discussions are ongoing between the clubs and that Norwich and Leeds have both been informed of the price that they will need to pay to take him to the Championship this summer.

The Whites have also been linked with Sunderland star and former academy graduate Jack Clarke and Burnley gem Manuel Benson but Erabi is the only out-and-out centre-forward who appears to be an active target for the club.

If Leeds can strike a deal for him ahead of Norwich before the end of the summer transfer window then they could ruthlessly ditch Patrick Bamford.

Why Leeds should part ways with Patrick Bamford

The 30-year-old attacker has found himself behind Mateo Joseph, 20, in the pecking order at the start of this season and the addition of another striker would leave him as the third option in that position.

Per Capology, the former Middlesbrough star is the highest earner in the squad on £70k-per-week and that would not appear to be value for money if he is rarely contributing on the pitch, due to Joseph and Erabi possibly being ahead of him.

Despite his hefty wage packet and vast experience, at the age of 30, the former England international has not been a reliable performer on the pitch for Leeds.

Stretching back to last season, Bamford has now produced one goal and zero assists in his last ten appearances for the club in all competitions.

The left-footed marksman has not contributed with a goal or an assist in three outings so far this term, with his only start coming in the 3-0 defeat to his former club Boro.

In the 2023/24 campaign, Bamford made 33 appearances in the Championship for Farke and racked up eight goals and one assist, which means that he averaged less than one goal contribution every three matches on average.

The English centre-forward scored those eight goals from an Expected Goals tally of 9.52 and missed nine 'big chances', as he failed to make the most of his opportunities in front of goal.

Farke could now ruthlessly ditch Bamford, whether that is from the matchday squad or from the club completely if a team is willing to take him before the end of the window, by signing Erabi as his replacement.

Why Leeds should sign Jusef Erabi

The Whites should swoop to sign the Swedish youngster ahead of Norwich this month because he is a talented young player with potential, who could also make an immediate impact on the pitch.

Firstly, Erabi is a 21-year-old striker with plenty of time left ahead of him to develop and improve over the years to come, which means that Farke could work to improve his performance and increase his value in the future.

Whereas, Bamford is at the other end of his career – at 30 – and it does not appear as though he has much, if any, development left to go through.

Despite being 19/20 throughout the 2023 season, Erabi showed plenty of promise in his first season of regular first-team football in the Allsvenskan – scoring seven goals in 23 appearances and 13 starts.

As you can see in the table above, the Swedish ace carried that form over to the current campaign, with a return of five goals in nine starts in the division.

This means that the 21-year-old marksman has plundered 12 goals in 22 league starts in the Swedish top-flight since the start of last year, which is an impressive return given his age and inexperience.

Erabi, who was described as "powerful" and "clinical" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has yet to prove himself in England or in the Championship but his form for Hammarby is promising and suggests that he has the potential to be an excellent signing for Leeds.

Speaking to after the 2026 World Cup qualifying draw, Tuchel shut down any doubts about the importance of England's all-time record scorer in his team. As well as stating how much he admires him as a player and as a leader, the new England boss insisted that "there's no need at the moment to look at other options" when it comes to the captain's armband.

Tuchel's comments came after a difficult summer for Kane, in which plenty of criticism was levelled at him for his somewhat lethargic and sloppy-looking performances at Euro 2024. Despite this, the Three Lions skipper still scored three goals at the competition and sparked some magic moments in his country's path to the final against Spain. And he's been in electric form throughout 2024-25, hitting the 20-goal mark for Bayern Munich before Christmas.

Celtic kick off their 2024/25 Scottish Premiership campaign around this time next week as they face off against Kilmarnock at Parkhead on the opening day.

It will be interesting to see the starting XI selected by Brendan Rodgers for the game and if any new signings are in the door and ready to play by the time the game comes around.

Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo are the only signings confirmed by the Hoops at this moment in time, as they have come in to compete for the goalkeeper position.

The Premiership champions are working on deals in the background, though, and they are reportedly interested in adding another defender to their squad.

According to the Daily Mail, Rodgers is targetting a swoop to sign Burnley central defender Dara O'Shea for the Scottish giants this summer.

The report claims that the Northern Irish head coach wants to bolster his squad before the window slams shut next month and has identified the Ireland international as one of a number of targets.

Rodgers also wants to sign Royal Antwerp forward Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Norwich City striker Adam Idah, and Wolverhampton Wanderers left-back Hugo Bueno.

The outlet does not reveal how much the Clarets would want for O'Shea, though, or how far along a possible deal is at this moment in time.

If Celtic can secure a swoop for the former West Bromwich Albion enforcer, however, then they could land a fantastic partner for Cameron Carter-Vickers at the back.

O'Shea, who was described as a "leader" by former manager Vincent Kompany, is a dominant defensive titan who could improve the team's play in possession.

The £20k-per-week brute ranked within the top 37% of centre-backs in the Premier League for progressive passes per 90 (3.80) and the top 29% for progressive carries per 90 (1.00) last term.

Whereas, Liam Scales ranked within the bottom 44% of his positional peers in the Champions League for progressive passes per 90 (3.00) and the bottom 24% for progressive carries per 90 (0.17) last season.

These statistics suggest that the potential is there for O'Shea to offer more in possession to progress his team up the pitch in high-quality matches, both as a passer and a carrier.

A matter of days ago Arsenal confirmed their fan voted Player of the Season award. Who took home the gong? Well, for a second year running it was the skipper, Martin Odegaard.

For a player who was the subject of uncertainty when he arrived on a permanent deal from Real Madrid in 2021, he has defied the doubters and become an elite midfield player, one of the best in the Premier League.

Only two players in the division – Bruno Fernandes and Pasca Gross – completed more key passes than the Norwegian's 102 last season. He is a striker's dream, even if he did only exit the campaign with 11 assists from 48 outings.

Odegaard also scored 11 times during a term where he simply captivated audiences with his gorgeous skill and jaw-dropping vision.

So, if Arsenal repeated that signing it would be pretty special, right?

Signed initially on loan during the pandemic season, Odegaard impressed Arteta enough to earn a permanent move to the Emirates Stadium, trading Madrid for London in a deal worth £30m.

That now looks to be a bargain but Arsenal are not stopping there in pursuit of signing players on the fringes in Madrid.

Indeed, according to reports in Spain, Arteta wants to bring Brahim Diaz to the Premier League this summer.

It's stated that 'Arteta is said to be seriously considering signing him for next season' and would 'be willing to offer him a starting role in his project'.

Combine the fact Diaz only started 18 of his 31 outings in LaLiga last season with Kylian Mbappe's arrival and it's likely that the chance for more game time will appeal to the 24-year-old.

For starters, Diaz has already enjoyed a far more vibrant time of it in Spain's capital than Odegaard ever did.

A genuine wonderkid, Arsenal's current skipper never got a fair shot at it with Madrid, ultimately leaving after just 11 first-team games.

So, Diaz has him trumped in that regard, enjoying a rather prolific time of it during 2023/24. The Spanish-born maestro scored 12 goals and assisted nine strikes, almost identical numbers to Odegaard.

Having played all across the front line, from the left wing, behind the striker and on the right, it's hardly a surprise that analyst Ben Mattinson once said that he "fits Arteta’s profile of a midfielder/winger he likes to work with".

So, he's versatile. That's the first box ticked. He can score goals; second box ticked. He can also assist; third box ticked. This is shaping up rather well, isn't it?

Where do the other similarities lie? Well, Diaz possesses that intricate ball-playing ability. He can glide past players with ease, ghost into the opposition penalty area and devastate defences.

Having watched him during a loan spell with Milan, Italian football expert Mina Rzouki once said: "He breaks the lines insanely well and his work in tight spaces." That sounds rather like Odegaard, doesn't it?

Also hailed as an "astonishing" talent by Rzouki, naturally, there's also comparisons to similar players in Phil Foden and David Silva. Diaz was at Manchester City but decided to leave in search of more regular football elsewhere.

Speaking on that, Joleon Lescott previously stated: "What I'm seeing hasn't surprised me because I've seen it in the academy [at Man City] but his technical ability was far superior to some of the players they had at their disposal.

"If it wasn't for a young Phil Foden he's probably doing this in a City shirt. They're of a similar mould, they like to get the ball in half spaces and can turn on a sixpence."

So, he's like Foden, he's like Odegaard, is there anything this young 24-year-old cannot do?

So, there are obviously some differences when you consider their play styles. Diaz is far more likely to take on a man and beat them, much like Foden, but Odegaard is more likely to create and progress the play via his passing.

That said, that isn't an area the Madrid star particularly struggles in. The Norwegian's progressive passing levels are just simply on a different planet to many players in Europe, so much so that he ranks within the top 2% of positionally similar players on the continent for that metric.

حسم التعادل الإيجابي مواجهة استاد أبيدجان أمام نظيره أورلاندوا بايرتس، التي أقيمت بينهما ضمن منافسات بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا بهدف لكل منهما.

والتقى الفريقان اليوم السبت، ضمن منافسات الجولة الثالثة من منافسات دور المجموعات من بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا على ملعب فيليكس هوفويت بوانيي في كوت ديفوار.

ويقع الفريقان في المجموعة الثالثة من بطولة دوري أبطال إفريقيا والتي تضم الاهلي وشباب بلوزداد الجزائري.

وتصدر أورلاندو بايرتس المجموعة برصيد 5 نقاط بعد التعادل اليوم مع استاد أبيدجان، بينما الأخير في المركز الأخير برصيد نقطة واحدة.

ومن المنتظر أن يلتقي الأهلي مع فريق شباب بلوزداد يوم 22 ديسمبر الجاري، بسبب انشغاله بالمشاركة في بطولة كأس إنتركونتيننتال. ترتيب مجموعة الأهلي في دوري أبطال إفريقيا بعد تعادل أورلاندو مع استاد أبيدجان
