Spurs’ massive Noni Madueke blunder

When Noni Madueke left Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer in 2018, nobody could’ve predicted his meteoric rise and now ultimately, it will leave Daniel Levy hurting with regret.

In the two-and-a-half seasons since his departure, the 19-year-old gem has emerged as one of England’s brightest prospects outside of the Premier League.

Following in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho, Madueke opted to swap England for Holland, rejecting Manchester United to join 24-time Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven on a three-year deal.

This season, in particular, has been a highlight as the teenage sensation has racked up 17 goal contributions (nine scored, eight assisted) in only 1,105 minutes of action, as per Transfermarkt.

As a result, his valuation has soared. Upon arrival, he was rated at just £540k but that figure now stands at £12.6m and will surely continue to rise alongside his phenomenal form.

His transformation has largely been down to former Red Devils rival Ruud van Nistelrooy, who believed his ability in one-on-one situations, combined with is speed, was far more suited to the wing than in the no.10 role. He’s certainly reaping the rewards now.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-spurs-news-mourinho-levy-gossip” title=”Read this week’s latest Spurs news, rumours and more!”]

Madueke’s one goal contribution every 65 minutes is considerably clear of many options in his role, both at Spurs and on the international stage.

Take Sancho as an example, he’s arguably Gareth Southgate’s leading contender to start at right-wing in this summer’s European Championships – despite delivering an astonishing 12 goals and 16 assists for Dortmund this season, the former City starlet is only contributing a goal once every 89 minutes.

Jose Mourinho’s best option in the position appears to be Gareth Bale, who has scored ten goals and provided three assists. He is perhaps most comparable to Madueke given his lack of regular game time (1,280 minutes), but even then, he’s still some way off with one goal contribution every 98.5 minutes.

Former PSV midfielder Tommie van de Leegte waxed lyrical about the England prodigy to Dutch radio station Omroep Brabant last year, he said (via Goal.com): “He’s fast and has the capability to trick his opponent. He brings creativity and is very explosive in his actions. That’s what PSV needs.”

As evident above, Levy should’ve done more to keep the kid in north London as by now, he could’ve been making such waves in the Premier League, and for a man who likes to make a pretty penny, that’ll be an even tougher pill to swallow.

The Spurs chairman may well forever regret losing out on Madueke.

AND in other news, Spurs could find the next Yaya Toure in £13.6m-rated prodigy…

Phil Hay drops Leeds transfer update

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has delivered a major update on Leeds United’s transfer plans for the end of this season.

What’s the story?

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have enjoyed a superb return to the Premier League following their promotion last summer, finding themselves just five points off reigning champions Liverpool.

Now, Hay has revealed the Whites could make up to five new signings when the season is over, and that “for the first time they’ll move on from a small section of the Championship old guard”.

Hay added that with Bielsa keen to maintain a small squad, departures will be just as important as any potential incomings, with Andrea Radrizzani wanting Leeds to emerge from their “Championship skin”.

Bielsa should be buzzing

Given how Leeds finally saw all their hard work in recent seasons under Bielsa pay off with a first-placed finish in the Championship last season, it was perhaps unsurprising that the Whites didn’t look to completely revamp their squad ahead of their return to the top-flight.

Bielsa has never been one to just blow things up completely and start afresh, instead, he’s known to show his trust and faith in the players who brought the club up in the first place.

The Whites did make a couple of significant additions in the likes of Diego Llorente and Raphinha, with the latter in particular looking more and more like a bargain with every passing game.

But ultimately, if Leeds are to take that next step, new signings in the mould of a Raphinha need to be made, and while that may mean tough decisions on some of the players who have served the Yorkshire club so well recently, it’s only for the better.

It’s exactly why Leeds’ plan to bring in up to five new players should have Bielsa buzzing. The Whites seem intent on not just settling with Premier League football, but marching forwards as ever and the manager will likely be keen to start yet another phase of the Leeds re-build with money to spend and with change on the horizon.

EFC’s Allan may be unavailable vs WBA

Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Allan may not be available for Everton’s clash against West Bromwich Albion on Thursday.

Allan may be out

The Toffees are in action again in just two days’ time as they travel to The Hawthorns to play West Brom.

Following his team’s 1-0 victory over Southampton on Monday, Ancelotti revealed that Everton may be without the former Napoli midfielder in the Midlands. He told BBC Sport:

“We have time to recover for Thursday. Allan was back after two months, we have to take care of this, it might be more difficult for him.”

Disappointing

This will no doubt be disappointing for Ancelotti. When Allan has been available, he has been an important player for the Merseyside outfit. No player amongst his teammates to start more than one game has averaged more than his 3.4 tackles per game in the Premier League (WhoScored), while he has also managed an 87% passing accuracy rate throughout the campaign.

Unfortunately, injury problems have reduced him to just 13 appearances in the top flight (Transfermarkt). Ancelotti is right to be cautious with the £22.5m-valued 30-year-old, but now that he has returned to the first team, the Italian will be hoping that the tenacious midfielder can play a big role between now and the end of the season as the Toffees go in search of a place in next season’s Champions League.

In other news, Ancelotti is ready to sanction the sale of this in-form striker.

A CBF procura pacificar conflitos no futebol brasileiro – disse à Fox Sports.

Sunderland can fix attacking problems with move for Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun

This is a perplexing period for Sunderland, one that won’t end for another week.

The Academy of Light has been closed due to COVID-19 until the 27th December so the players and staff will experience a rare Christmas at home.

Although the players won’t be busy, senior club officials will be drawing up a shortlist of January targets.

What’s the word?

Sunderland have one clear ambition for the upcoming transfer window – to sign someone who can stretch the play.

Jack Diamond has helped Lee Johnson in that aspect but it remains a priority to find a goal scorer besides Charlie Wyke.

Could they find that in the form of a Premier League talent? Quite possibly. Prospective buyer William Storey revealed this week that he has ambitions of bringing in a select group of U23 players currently at sides in the Premier League. That’s presuming he seals a deal with Stewart Donald.

The Sunderland Echo speculated who might be on the Black Cats’ list heading into January and one name that stood out was Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun.

The Echo explained that a number of Championship clubs would be interested in the striker’s services but he was certainly in the mould of player that Sunderland would be looking at.

Superb acquisition

Make no mistake about it, Balogun is still relatively untested at professional level.

However, the early signs we’ve seen are phenomenal. The American-born forward has scored twice for the Gunners in the Europa League this term, netting against Dundalk and Molde while he has found the net regularly for Arsenal’s youth sides.

The 19-year-old has bagged 38 times in 41 outings for the U18s and has developed well at U23 level too, finding the net on 17 occasions in the same number of games throughout his career.

Balogun’s playing days are still embryonic but he’s been compared to some of the best attackers we’ve seen in the English game.

Speaking about the teenager on BT Sport this season (via The Daily Mail), Martin Keown compared him to an ex-Sunderland player: “The way he linked up, that is a great turn. You try to compare, is it Andy Cole or Ian Wright? There is that sort of movement about him. I know those are big-name players and if he can live up to that he will have some career.”

That’s an incredibly exciting quote and leads us to believe he could fix one of Johnson’s biggest issues. Mikel Arteta described the player as “really lively” earlier this term and he brings pace and movement in abundance – something Wyke, Will Grigg and Danny Graham don’t necessarily offer.

In the EFL trophy this term, Balogun has amassed 1.5 dribbles per game which usurps every single player at Sunderland barring Diamond.

Possessing the ability to run in behind and stretch defences, he’d be a fabulous capture.

AND in other news, Storey would be staring at a Rodwell-like DISASTER if Sunderland sign ace with “big energy”…

Aston Villa should have signed Eberechi Eze in the summer

Aston Villa may have missed a trick by failing to land reported summer transfer target, Eberechi Eze.

What was the story?

Reports from The Guardian back in late July suggested that Dean Smith’s side were interested in signing the attacker from Championship side QPR, but that the club would face significant competition for his signature from fellow Premier League teams.

In the end, Eze completed a switch to Crystal Palace for a fee in the region of £20m, with Villa signing their own wide player in Lyon’s Bertrand Traore. Whilst the former has yet to score for his new team, there’s a real case to be made that Smith should have landed the man from Loftus Road.

Shades of Sterling

With 14 goals and eight assists in just 46 Championship games last season, Eze was a shining light for a QPR team that didn’t even make the play-offs.

The England U21 international possesses a lot of the best characteristics a winger should have, with Sky Sports’ Lewis Jones claiming that he “is a devastating ball-carrier, possessing a glide with the ball that only a unique talent can boast.”

And that dribbling is what QPR’s former manager, Marc Bircham, has previously raved about, saying: “He goes past players easier than Raheem Sterling did. Sterling would beat players with pace or do a trick or a chop – it’s all dynamic movements, but Ebere Eze just glides past players.”

With Traore, Villa have someone who previously played in the Premier League with Chelsea and didn’t make the grade. In Eze, they would have signed a rising talent with real experience of English football, and the potential to develop into a fearsome star at Villa Park.

Antes do torneio jogamos contra eles e aí o Rivaldo estava lá e me indicou.
