Tottenham Hotspur Agree Terms With £21m "Monster"

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reached an agreement with Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson, according to reports.

Who is Victor Nelsson?

Nelsson is a Danish international who first arrived at the Nef Stadium from FC Copenhagen back in August 2021 and he’s since gone on to make 78 appearances to date, 31 of those being starts this season from 33 games in the Super Lig.

The Lilywhites have Clement Lenglet out of contract at the end of the campaign upon the expiration of his season-long loan from Barcelona, so should he not make his move permanent, Ryan Mason’s successor could be on the hunt to find a new centre-back, and the 24-year-old appears to have been identified as an ideal target in N17.

Are Tottenham signing Nelsson?

According to T24 (via Sport Witness), Tottenham “came to Galatasaray with a €25m (£21m) offer”, with the Turkish side now “working” on sanctioning his sale. The club's president Erden Timur “made a trip” to London to hold “transfer talks” with several clubs, one of those being Spurs, and despite not wanting to let him go, they have “softened their stance” as a result of him showing his “desire to leave”.

The report adds that Spurs chiefs have had a meeting with the Denmark international, where it has been claimed they have “reached an agreement”, presumably on personal terms.

Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson.

Prior to joining Galatasaray, Nelsson was dubbed a “monster” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, and considering the extremely high standard of his performances that he's continued into this season, Tottenham could be recruiting a fantastic centre-back should this deal get 100% finalised.

The World Cup participant currently averages 3.4 clearances and 3.1 aerial wins per league game, via WhoScored, so is a real rock at the heart of the backline, but he’s also capable of contributing to his team’s efforts at the opposite end of the pitch.

Nelsson, who has the versatility to operate slightly higher up in defensive and central midfield alongside his natural position in the backline, has scored one goal and also provided an assist across all competitions this term, so can be useful when it comes to set pieces and long balls in the final third.

Whether Tottenham’s new permanent manager will have his eye on the same targets as Daniel Levy is highlighting now when appointed yet remains to be seen, but regardless, Nelsson may make for an impressive signing no matter which candidate finds themselves in the dugout in the capital ahead of the 2023/24 term.

West Ham Could Bring £50m ‘Role Model’ To London Stadium

West Ham United has been urged to sign Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse in a sensational summer swoop.

What’s been said about James Ward-Prowse?

According to reputable journalist Paul Brown, he believes that the 28-year-old would be a fantastic addition to the London Stadium, ahead of his side’s relegation to the Championship.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “I think he's a leader, someone you can rely on, a great trainer, brilliant professional. I think he'd be a great signing for West Ham, and if Rice was to go, that would certainly sugar the pill a little bit."

This follows a previous report by the Evening Standard, which stated that the Hammers are prepared to launch a move for the 11-cap international, and David Moyes attempted to bring the player to east London last year.

It has been revealed by transfer insider Dean Jones that the Englishman could cost up to £50m, but due to the alleged £120m that the Irons could recoup from the sale of Declan Rice, this would certainly be a smart method of reinvestment.

Would James Ward-Prowse be a good fit at West Ham United?

For the Irons, the departure of Rice is a daunting prospect, and it will undeniably leave a monumental hole on and off the pitch.

However, Ward-Prowse boasts over 11 years of Premier League experience and has been the Saints skipper since 2020.

His former manager Ralph Hassenhuttl stated that he is “a role model of how you should act as a captain”, with the Austrian stating that he leads by example with his fitness and professionalism.

Southampton'sJamesWard-Prowse

This view on the £100k-per-week has been echoed by his teammate Kyle Walker-Peters, who said: “I always saw him play throughout the England youth set-up and I thought, this guy is a player.

“Then two and a half years ago I went to Southampton – and you know when someone really surprises you with how much of a leader they are. Technically, you know how gifted he is, his free kicks are crazy.”

Ward-Prowse has undoubtedly been his side’s most superior and productive player in a poor season that sees his boyhood club rooted to the bottom of the table.

He has played in every league fixture this campaign, whilst registering 12 goal contributions and has the highest average rating (6.93) in the squad, as per WhoScored.

The Irons should jump at the chance to seal the deal for a player brimming with experience, quality, and technique.

Indeed, he has the leadership qualities on and off the pitch to pick up the mantle from Rice, and pivotally, has the minerals required to become their new star man.

Pochettino Wants £50k-A-Week PL Star At Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino would like Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister at Chelsea this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Is Mac Allister leaving Brighton?

The 24-year-old's future is a key talking point at the moment, with an exit from the Amex Stadium expected at the end of the season. He has enjoyed an excellent campaign for the Seagulls, scoring 10 goals in the Premier League and proving to be a vital player.

Mac Allister has also tasted World Cup glory with Argentina, starting six matches in the competition, and it feels as though he believes now is the right time to make a step up in his career. With Chelsea looking for new signings this summer, and with Pochettino coming in as the new manager, additions in the middle of the park are vital.

The £50,000-a-week Brighton hero is someone who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, although he looks most likely to join Liverpool, as things stand.

Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

Are Chelsea still keen on Mac Allister?

Taking to Twitter, Romano admitted that the Reds could be closing in on the signing of Mac Allister, but made it clear that Pochettino remains an admirer, should the chance arise to snap him up:

"Personal terms are almost agreed between Liverpool and Mac Allister — after project presented in April. Deal not done yet, there are still details left — Pochettino appreciates him. No issues with Brighton — been told there’s fixed price for Alexis’ exit in June."

Mac Allister would be perfect for Chelsea this summer, coming in and adding the youth and legs that have been missing at times this season, with age beginning to catch up with the likes of N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic.

While it looks as though he is off to Liverpool, the Blues should still do all they can to get him, considering he has averaged 2.1 tackles per game in the league this season, chipped in with 11 goal contributions and been hailed as a "very intelligent" player by former Manchester City and Argentina striker Sergio Aguero.

He has the rare ability to provide defensive stability and box-to-box quality, much in the way City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan does, and he could be a lovely foil for international teammate Enzo Fernandez at Chelsea next season. If they fail to get him, as looks likely currently, bringing in a player with similar qualities is vital in the coming months.

Newcastle Boosted In Pursuit Of £100k-A-Week Star

Rumoured Newcastle United transfer target Raphinha could now leave Barcelona this summer, according to a fresh update on his future.

Has Raphinha shone at Barcelona?

The Brazilian has been linked with a summer move to St James' Park numerous times in recent weeks, as the Magpies look to make big inroads in the upcoming transfer window. He moved to Barca from Leeds United last summer, seeing it as an ideal next step in his career.

Raphinha hasn't necessarily been as influential as he was for the Whites, however, struggling to consistently start games throughout the campaign. In fact, the £100,000-a-week winger has only started 21 of his side's La Liga games, still managing to score seven goals and register six assists along the way.

It could even be that Xavi simply doesn't see the former Leeds man as an important part of his plans moving forward, instead deciding to sell him this summer and receive a hefty amount of money for his services, and a new update certainly suggests as much.

Raphinha

Could Newcastle snap up Raphinha?

According to Sport [via Sport Witness], Raphinha is "on the exit ramp" at Barca ahead of the summer window, with only Ousmane Dembele and Robert Lewandowski guaranteed to stay put at the Camp Nou. The 26-year-old is very much on the transfer list, along with the likes of Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres.

It is noted that there is a "market" for him in England and that Newcastle are one of the clubs who are "bidding" for him currently, with the Magpies willing to spend big on him.

This is a clear boost for Eddie Howe, with Raphinha seemingly surplus to requirements at Barca and free to join another club at the end of the season. There is no shame in him not quite reaching the desired levels at a club of their stature, and there is no reason why he couldn't be a roaring success at Newcastle, with his techique once described as "perfect" by Michael Owen.

The Brazil international showed during his time at Leeds that he is more than capable of excelling in the Premier League, scoring 11 times in the competition last season and playing a big role in the Whites avoiding relegation from the Championship. His trickery and end product from out wide could make the Magpies an even bigger force next season, and he could be an upgrade on Miguel Almiron, even though he has clearly enjoyed a strong 2022/23 campaign.

Qualifying for the Champions League could be massive, in terms of being able to entice Raphinha to the club, so these remaining few matches are absolutely huge.

Crystal Palace Eye Move For In-Form Championship Striker

Crystal Palace are believed to be interested in signing Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom this summer, according to an exciting new transfer rumour.

Is Akpom having a good season?

The 27-year-old is having a season to remember for 'Boro, proving to be one of the Championship's best players and even winning the division's Player of the Season award last month. He has been a relentless source of goals throughout the campaign, netting 28 times in 37 appearances and helping his side into the playoff places.

Akpom still has work to do this season, in terms of helping inspire Michael Carrick's into the Premier League, with some tense playoff games now on the horizon this month. Should 'Boro failed to return to the top flight, however, there is sure to be interest in their star player's services once the summer transfer window arrives.

The Englishman's current deal expires at the end of this season, meaning he could be snapped up for free if he doesn't sign a new contract at the Riverside Stadium. That's where Palace come into play, as they eye up attacking reinforcements in the summer, and namely a new centre forward.

Could Crystal Palace sign Akpom this summer?

According to TEAMtalk, the Eagles are "ready to launch a move" for Akpom this summer and are "drawing up plans to bid for the former England U21 international", implying a new contract won't stop their attempt. It is also claimed that the striker would "relish" the opportunity to move back to London, having been in Arsenal's academy before departing back in 2018.

Palace will reportedly make a move for Akpom regardless of how Middlesbrough's playoff campaign goes, seeing him as a strong option to bring into the top flight.

He could certainly be an exciting signing, given the prolific nature in which he has scored for 'Boro this season, and while the step up to the Premier League is clearly great, he could be the man Palace are desperately in need for, in terms of providing consistent end product.

This season, Eberechi Eze is leading the scoring charts in the league with just eight goals, which highlights the need to bring in a true marksman who can net somewhere between 15 and 20 strikes per year. Granted, there is the risk that Akpom could find the move hard and not be as prolific, but he has been hailed as "incredible" by journalist Chris Wheatley, and at 27, would be coming in right in the prime of his career.

Sancho Ditched In Man Utd Predicted XI For Sevilla

There is little respite for Manchester United in what looks set to be a hectic end to the season, with Erik ten Hag's men set to take on Sevilla in the Europa League this evening, just a few days prior to a Wembley showdown with Brighton and Hove Albion in the semi-final of the FA Cup.

While that latter fixture may well play into the United manager's thinking with regard to his team selection later today, the demanding Dutchman will still be keen to progress against the La Liga outfit, having seen his side slip to a 2-2 draw in the first-leg at Old Trafford.

That stalemate proved rather costly for the Red Devils as Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez were both forced off with injury – the latter man now out for the season – while influential midfielder, Bruno Fernandes was handed a bizarre yellow card to ensure that he misses the trip to Andalusia through suspension.

On a more positive note, however, four of the club's injured stars have made the trip to Seville after being sidelined against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, with Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Marcel Sabitzer – who pulled up in the warm-up at the City Ground – all in contention to feature.

With that in mind, Football FanCast has predicted just how the Carabao Cup winners will line up this evening…

What will Man United's starting XI be against Sevilla?

4-3-3 – (GK) De Gea; (RB) Wan-Bissaka, (CB) Maguire, (CB) Lindelof, (LB) Dalot; (CDM) Casemiro, (CM) Eriksen, (CM) Fred; (LW) Pellistri, (ST) Martial, (RW) Antony.

We predict that there will be just two changes from the side that ran out 2-0 winners against Steve Cooper's men on Sunday, with Ten Hag potentially needing to avoid the temptation of rushing Shaw back into the fold, particularly with the Englishman likely to be required at centre-back against the Seagulls due to Harry Maguire's suspension.

That will see Diogo Dalot – who sealed the win late on against Forest – keep his place as something of an unorthodox left-back, while in midfield the experienced pairing of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could be joined by Brazil international Fred, with the 30-year-old tasked as the man to fill the void of the absent Fernandes.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag

Perhaps the most notable tweak could lie in the attacking ranks, with there seemingly justification for Jadon Sancho to be ousted from his starting berth, with the Englishman having again been the 'quietest' of the forward players at the weekend, according to 90min's Jack Gallagher.

With it potentially too soon to rush his compatriot Rashford back into the fold from the start – as the club's leading scorer will be needed this weekend – Sancho's place could be taken by young Facundo Pellistri, with the 5 foot 9 "game changer", as previously hailed by journalist Nico Cantor, having the opportunity to make just his second start for the Red Devils.

Leeds Must Ditch "Poor" Dud for 19 y/o Machine

Leeds United are one of the many Premier League outfits currently embroiled in a thronged relegation battle, and every match must be considered a must-win if the drop zone remains firmly below the feet of Javi Gracia's men.

A recent purple patch has propelled the Whites into 14th place, though after 27 matches, the congested table allows the outfit just two points of safety, with endangered duo West Ham United and Bournemouth both going above United with just one win.

When Jesse Marsch was sacked two months ago, brooding clouds lurked over Elland Road. Leeds were unruly and seeped in pessimism, and while the danger remains, a more cohesive and disciplined approach has started to earn invaluable points to forge a climb up the table.

Collectively, the squad has been far more promising, but there are several members still struggling to find their feet under new management, and none floundering more so than Brenden Aaronson, who has endured a tumultuous ride over the past few weeks.

Having signed for the Whites last summer for roughly £25m, the forward-thinking midfielder has managed just one goal and two assists from his 26 Premier League appearances, struggling for form and fluidity.

Who should replace Brenden Aaronson?

As per Sofascore, the 22-year-old Aaronson has recorded a lowly average league rating of 6.51 this term, with his "poor" – as branded by one source – form since the turn of the year particularly lacklustre.

Reporter Joe Donnohue was particularly scathing in his recent comments, stating that the £45k-per-week ace left his teammates "raging" after one recent subpar showing.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, former Leeds defender Jon twiiNewsome also recently said: "Over the past couple of months, since the World Cup, he’s not really produced anything, has he? It’s stats, it’s assists, goals, they’re the departments that we’re lacking in.”

brenden-aaronson-performance-leeds-united-javi-gracia-premier-league

With Tyler Adams currently out injured, Gracia confirmed that there are two starlets "he'll think about using while Adams is out", with Darko Gyabi pushing for a start.

Gyabi, 19-years-old, left Donnohue waxing lyrical earlier this month, with the journalist saying: "Darko Gyabi's performance tonight is the most complete midfield display by any #LUFC player, at any level, (I've seen) this season. Passing, strength, presence, awareness, use of his body – class."

That praise came following Leeds' recent 3-0 victory over Derby County in the Premier League 2, but his cameo against Manchester City is greater evidence of his calibre.

Having made a 13-minute display at the end of December, Gyabi recorded an impressive 7.0 match rating against the divisional champions, completing 100% of his passes and winning 100% of his dribbles, also making two tackles and having a shot blocked.

He is a robust and unwavering central force, and despite his inexperience, the 19-year-old would be the perfect phenom to inject into the fold as the season approaches the business end, and Gracia must act with swift conviction.

There were high hopes for Aaronson when he penned his deal with Leeds, and while the talent remains on display, he will need to improve many facets of his toolkit before unleashing his full might on the Premier League.

Gyabi, in retrospect, will be vying for an opportunity to prove that he deserves a place in Gracia's plans, and as such, the Spaniard must tinker with his squad and craft a new dimension in the fight to preserve top-flight status.

Crystal Palace make contact with Roy Hodgson

Crystal Palace have made contact with Roy Hodgson over a potential return to Selhurst Park, Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Vieira sacked

Patrick Vieira was sacked by Palace on Friday morning, days on from the club’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. That loss made it 12 without a win in 2023, with the Eagles now averaging just a point a game in the top flight with 11 games to go.

They are three points clear of the drop zone heading into this afternoon’s fixtures, with former captain and current U21s coach Paddy McCarthy set to take the team against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Steve Parish has admitted he will not rush when it comes to bringing in Vieira’s successor, although reports elsewhere seem to suggest he has already contacted one available manager.

The Latest: Contact made

FI reporter Wayne Veysey shared a managerial update from Selhurst Park on Friday, saying that the club want to make a swift appointment.

They revealed that Palace have made contact with Hodgson over a short-term deal until the end of the season, with the 75-year-old ‘believed to be keen on returning to Palace and a deal could be formalised quickly if all parties can reach an agreement.’

The Verdict: One to watch?

Hodgson took over his boyhood club back in 2017 and helped keep the Eagles in the Premier League for the four seasons under his leadership. He took charge of 162 competitive games with Palace and left on good terms after the 2020/21 campaign, saying:

“It’s been a particularly rewarding period of my football life and career to have been able to spend these last four seasons with Palace. I feel now that at the end of another successful season, in which we have secured our Premier League status, the moment is right for me to step down from my responsibilities of being a full-time manager.”

However, with Palace now in free fall and in real danger of slipping further down the table, he could be a shrewd experienced option to return on a short-term basis.

Hodgson, who plays an attacking 4-3-3 system, as per Transfermarkt, has 125 wins as a Premier League manager from 384 games at an average 1.22 points per game. That form for the remaining 11 games should take Palace close to the 40-point mark and potential survival, which is the club’s main objective.

Therefore, this could be one to keep an eye on over the coming days, and his return could be welcomed by Wilfried Zaha, who paid a public tribute to Hodgson after he left Palace two years ago.

Chelsea: Potter slammed for Fofana decision

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has been slammed for substituting David Datro Fofana at half-time against Southampton this afternoon.

The Lowdown: Disappointing defeat

The Blues’ poor Premier League form continued this afternoon, coming unstuck against bottom-of-the-table Southampton, in a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

A first-half James Ward Prowse free-kick was the difference between the two sides, despite Chelsea dominating possession in the second half, and having more than double the amount of shots compared to their opponents throughout the match.

The Latest: Potter slammed

Taking to Twitter at the end of the opening 45 minutes, journalist Oliver Salt of The Daily Mail brought attention to Potter for his bemusing decision to substitute Fofana – coming after he was chosen to start at striker ahead of the more experienced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was left out of the squad.

The reporter said: “Fofana one of the only positives of that dire first half and he’s off at half time… Make it make sense”

The Verdict: Strange decision

The 20-year-old was a shining light in a poor team during the first half, recording one shot on target, while also completing two of the three dribbles that he attempted, the joint-highest amount of any Chelsea player.

Fofana also made two key passes over his limited 45 minutes and completed 100% of his passes (SofaScore), adding to the bizarre nature of Potter’s call.

As such, it was a very strange decision from Potter to withdraw him so early on in the game, with other members of the media lauding him as the ‘only positive’ in the team, also praising him for his ‘physical’ attributes.

The games do not get any easier for the Blues, with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur up next, and Fofana’s performance today means that he has surely put down a marker to start the next match, especially considering Aubameyang has just one goal in 11 league games this season.
