Liverpool fans desperate to sign Gavi

A number of Liverpool supporters are desperate for the Reds to sign Barcelona youngster Gavi following his impressive performances for Spain in recent days.

The La Liga giants may be in disarray at the moment, but they do at least have some special young players in their ranks. Pedri is one of the best emerging talents in the world and the same applies to attacking midfielder Gavi, who is enjoying a meteoric rise in the game.

The 17-year-old only has seven first team appearances to his name for Barca, but he is already making a name for himself at senior international level.

Gavi, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, won his first two caps for his country during the current international break, impressing in the UEFA Nations League and helping them finish as runners-up.

Liverpool news: Premier League pundit drops Salah contract claim

Former Premier League star Nigel Jemson insists that Mohamed Salah wants to be paid the same amount as the best players in the world if he is to extend his contract at Liverpool.

The Egypt international’s current contract runs until 2023 and he has emerged as one of the world’s best players during his time at Anfield.

Salah has made a total of 209 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side, scoring 130 goals and registering 49 assists.

This season already, the 29-year-old has scored five goals in six games in all competitions, including strikes against AC Milan in the Champions League and Chelsea in the Premier League.

Salah’s contract is coming to an end and 2022 could well be seen as a major opportunity for other clubs to come in and make a bid for him, and he is reported to currently earn £200,000-per-week on Merseyside.

Jemson does not think that is enough for the Egyptian, who wants to earn a similar amount to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at Manchester United and PSG respectively.

Jemson said: “I think he wants parity with the rest of the big, top players in the world. And they’re all earning ridiculous amounts of money a week and I think he just wants to be on the same bracket as those.

“Hopefully he’ll get his contract sorted out at Liverpool and have a fantastic season.”

Forest dealt potential James Garner blow

Nottingham Forest have been dealt a potential blow to their chances of keeping James Garner at the City Ground for the entirety of the current Championship campaign.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by The Sun on Sunday (via Football League World), who revealed that Manchester United insisted upon a break clause in the 20-year-old’s season-long loan deal with Forest, meaning the central midfielder could be recalled by the Premier League club in the January transfer window should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be unhappy with his progress in the second tier.

Cooper would be gutted

Considering the sheer amount of talent Garner quite clearly possesses, should Manchester United indeed take up their option to recall the England U21 international in January, it would undoubtedly leave Steve Cooper gutted.

Indeed, despite Forest’s disappointing campaign so far this season, the £3.6m-rated man has nevertheless impressed over his five Championship appearances for the Garibaldi, creating one big chance for his teammates, as well as making an average of 1.2 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.6 clearances and winning three duels per game.

These returns have seen the player United midfielder Fred dubbed an “incredible” talent earn an average SofaScore match rating of 6.94, ranking him as the Reds’ second-best performer in the league.

As such, should Cooper fail to oversee an upturn in results at the City Ground, or United simply believe that Garner’s development would be served better by playing for another Championship side in the second half of the season, the possibility of Forest losing the services of the midfielder in January could be a very real one, something that would undoubtedly come as a major blow to the 41-year-old manager’s chances of getting his side out of their current predicament in the Championship relegation zone.

Liverpool linked to Lucas Ocampos

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Sevilla forward Lucas Ocampos as manager Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his attacking options.

What’s the story?

According to Spanish publication Fichajes (as relayed by the Daily Star), the Reds are contemplating making a move for the highly-rated 27-year-old with only a few days remaining of the current window.

Ocampos is under contract at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan until 2024 and would command a sizeable fee if Liverpool are serious about pursuing their interest in the Argentina international.

Liverpool fans will be buzzing

The South American forward arrived at Sevilla from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille back in 2019 in a £12.8m move and has enjoyed two successful seasons with Julen Lopetegui’s charges.

In 90 appearances for Los Nervionenses, Ocampos has bagged 25 goals and provided nine assists, playing a pivotal part in their 2019/20 Europa League triumph and back-to-back top-four La Liga finishes.

Speaking about the versatile forward previously, Fede Prami, a journalist and River Plate fan recalled his days in Argentina, calling him “electric.”

And, therefore, it’s easy to understand why Klopp is reportedly keen to add Ocampos to his first-team squad before the August 31st deadline.

With Xherdan Shaqiri sealing his move to Lyon, the German tactician has space for another overseas talent, and the funds generated from his departure should give Klopp room to maneuver in the market, meaning a replacement for the diminutive Swiss attacker could be on the way.

Although Liverpool’s current front four of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota have all found the back of the net in the opening weeks of the new campaign, the 19-time English champions are likely to need greater strength in depth in order to fight on multiple fronts.

Therefore, a large section of the club’s supporters will surely be buzzing to learn of the Anfield outfit’s interest in the £36m-rated magician.

After watching their domestic rivals spend huge money on several superstar acquisitions in the final third of the pitch, Liverpool’s director of football Michael Edwards must follow suit, providing Klopp with the resources he needs to guide the Merseysiders back to the Premier League summit.

Liverpool join Leeds in Danjuma race

An update has emerged on Leeds target Arnaut Danjuma, regarding Leeds’ interest in his services.

What’s the talk?

According to Marca, via the Daily Star, Liverpool have joined Leeds in the race to sign Bournemouth forward Arnaut Danjuma this summer.

Leeds and West Ham were both touted with interest in the Dutchman earlier this window and could now be competing against the Reds for his signature.

Raphinha 2.0

Victor Orta must react to this news by swooping in to secure a deal for Danjuma as quickly as possible. With more clubs joining the race for his services, it could make it more difficult for Leeds to snap him up.

If the Whites can bring him in then it could be a terrific signing for the club. Marcelo Bielsa would love to coach him next season as he has shown incredible promise with his form in the Championship for Bournemouth. He provided 17 goals and seven assists in 31 starts for the Cherries, averaging an excellent WhoScored rating of 7.21 in the second tier.

Bielsa would be delighted to add another talented attacker to his squad as it would give him more options in the final third.

Last year, Clinton Morrison hailed him as an exceptional talent whilst speaking about him on Quest, via Football League World:

“Danjuma is an excellent player. Whatever happens, he will be playing Premier League football next year, whether it’s with Bournemouth or without them. He’s an exceptional talent.”

Bielsa already has Raphinha on the right-hand side of his attack, but he could have ‘Raphinha 2.0’ on the left by bringing Danjuma in. Whilst the Brazilian is a left-footed attacker who plays out on the right and likes to cut in, Danjuma is a right-footed player who starts on the left and can drift inside or go down to the byline.

Raphinha averaged 1.9 dribbles, 2.1 key passes and 2.2 shots per game last term, compared to the Bournemouth man’s 1.8 dribbles, 1.5 key passes and 2.1 shots per game. This, along with their positional awareness, suggests that they both have a similar style of play and, therefore, Danjuma could be Leeds’ next wing wizard if they are able to secure a deal for him ahead of the likes of Liverpool.

Bielsa would love having two dribble kings on the wings as it could strike fear into opposition defenders. Both Raphinha and Danjuma are capable of taking players on and either creating a chance for a teammate or a shooting opportunity for themselves, which could also excite the fans watching on from the stands.

Leeds need to push ahead and get a deal done.

Liverpool: Fans criticise Jurgen Klopp’s comments

A number of Liverpool supporters are unhappy about Jurgen Klopp’s comments regarding the Reds’ pursuit of a central midfielder.

It has been a quiet summer in the transfer market for the Reds, with centre-back Ibrahima Konate still the only signing made to date.

[freshpress-quiz id=“359326”]

Meanwhile, Gini Wijnaldum has departed for Paris Saint-Germain, leaving a potential void in the middle of the park at Anfield.

The Dutchman may not have always provided goals and assists from midfield, but there is no doubting his impact during his time at Anfield, racking up 237 appearances and rarely ever missing time through injury.

Speaking in his pre-Norwich press conference on Friday [via journalist Paul Gorst on Twitter], a spiky Klopp played down the need to sign a new midfielder, rattling off the options at his disposal.

The Liverpool manager’s comments suggest the Reds won’t be bringing in anyone to replace Wijnaldum, which may not go down well with many.

In other news, a journalist has provided an update on Leeds’ attempts to sign one player. Find out who it is here.

Man United set to sell James to Leeds

An update has emerged on Manchester United winger Dan James, regarding Leeds’ interest in signing him before the deadline.

What’s the talk?

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Whites are in advanced talks over the signing of the United winger on a permanent deal.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are now discussing personal terms with the forward ahead of officially completing the move before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

Delight

United fans will surely be delighted with this news as it means that the club are set to receive a transfer fee for James that could go a long way to paying for Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to the club. The Red Devils have agreed a €23m (£19.7m) deal to sign the Portuguese international.

Dan James joined United for a reported fee of £15m from Swansea and is currently rated at £16.2m by Transfermarkt. Romano does not mention how much Leeds are set to pay for the forward, but if it is within the region of £15-16m then that could pay for the bulk of Ronaldo’s transfer fee – which could delight United fans as it is exceptional business on paper.

You only have to look at their respective league stats to see the difference in quality between the pair. James managed three goals and one assist in 15 Premier League matches, averaging a WhoScored rating of 6.61 for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, scored 29 goals and provided three assists in 33 Serie A appearances for Juventus, averaging a WhoScored rating of 7.61. Despite being 36, the ex-Real Madrid attacker still enjoyed a sensational season with the Italian side, scoring goals at a superb rate, whereas James struggled to find consistency for United.

The club are now on the verge of potentially selling James for almost as much, or more depending on the final figures that are yet to be reported, as they have agreed to pay for Ronaldo. Of course, this does not take wages into account, but it is still great reading for United fans all the same and represents a shrewd piece of business by the club on and off the pitch.

In a year where their owners have been protested against in such stern fashion, they should be pleased that they’re finally beginning to get things right.

Now, they can now look forward to Ronaldo potentially making his second debut for the club knowing that James’ prospective sale may well help pay for the signing.

Pundit says Spurs target Cristian Romero is among world’s best

Tottenham Hotspur target Cristian Romero has been labelled as “one of the most exciting centre-backs in the world” by Forza Italian Football editor Conor Clancy.

Spurs head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who was appointed last month, is looking to bolster his defensive options after seeing the club finish seventh in the Premier League last season.

Centre-half Toby Alderweireld has ended his six-year stay in north London by joining Qatar’s Al-Duhail earlier this week.

Romero, who is currently with Italian side Atalanta, has been touted as a potential replacement for the Belgium international.

Having won the Copa America with Argentina earlier this month, Romero has been sprung into the limelight and, according to Sportitalia, Spurs are now facing competition. The report suggests Spanish giants Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the central defender’s availability.

The 23-year-old made 42 appearances last season and, despite being at the heart of Atalanta’s defence, registered three goals and five assists.

Serie A expert Clancy believes Spurs would have secured one of the world’s leading defenders if they manage to get a deal over the line.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, he said: “Romero was brilliant last season. If Spurs can get him and have the patience to let him make a couple of mistakes early on, they’ve got one of the most exciting centre-backs in the world.

“I don’t think I could rate him any more highly than I do, to be honest. He is brilliant.”

Wolves can replace Jota by signing Danjuma

Rather unexpectedly last weekend, Wolves wrapped up the most eye-catching transfer of their window to date.Bruno Lage welcomed Trincao to Molineux as the Portuguese aceÂcompleted a surprising loan deal from Barcelona.

On the chalkboard

The youngster’s arrival in the Midlands is a timely one considering the struggles they could have offensively heading into the new campaign.

Raul Jimenez has only just returned from a fractured skull while Adama Traore could be heading for pastures new once he returns from the European Championships.

It’s also likely that Wolves will be without the services of Pedro Neto at the start of the season as he recovers from a broken knee cap.

Neto won the club’s Player of the Year award for 2020/21 so will be a huge loss to their chances.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-wolves-transfer-news-ceballos-zinchenko-euros-felix-lage” title=”Read the latest Wolves transfer news!”]

However, despite his marvellous performances last term, you sense as though the Old Gold are still missing someone like Diogo Jota.

He left the Midlands behind 12 months ago as Liverpool prised him away in a deal worth a whopping £41m. Jota enjoyed an impressive first campaign at Anfield, scoring a hat-trick in the Champions League on his way to scoring 13 times in all competitions.

The solution

With Wolves still requiring some extra firepower in the final third, Lage could finally replace Jota by signing Arnaut Danjuma.

Football League World reported a few months ago that they were just one of a couple of Premier League sides vying for his signature.

Danjuma was mesmeric in the Championship last term, finding the back of the net on 17 occasions and also laying on eight assists for his teammates.

Speaking about his form, ex-Bournemouth boss Jonathan Woodgate said: “I know last season that he didn’t really get a run in the Premier League and he maybe found it a bit difficult to get game time, but this season he’s been outstanding.â€

Woodgate added: “I can only talk of what he’s done under my reign, but at the minute, he’s playing some exceptional football, and what else he is doing is working for the team.â€

The winger was a crafty trickster last season, beating players for fun and scoring some simply outrageous strikes.

Like Jota, he is capable of finding the net on a regular basis and cut his cloth in the Championship first, just as the Portuguese star did.

In the second-tier, Danjuma completed 1.8 dribbles per game. Coincidentally, that replicates the number the former Wolves man recorded in his final campaign at Molineux.

The Bournemouth star’s 2.1 shots per game in 2020/21 is also just 0.1 more than Jota managed in his final year with Wolves.

Capable of playing on either flank and through the middle, Danjuma would be the perfect replacement this summer.

Everton: Fans react to Moise Kean’s Instagram activity

Everton striker Moise Kean appeared to ‘like’ an Instagram post calling for him to be set ‘free’.

The image showed Kean donning the kit of PSG, where he spent the 2020/21 season on loan.

Kean netted 16 goals in all competitions for the French giants, averaging one every 134 minutes and out-scoring £199.8million signing Neymar (via BBC Sport).

What’s the latest on Moise Kean’s future?

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted earlier in July that PSG had been working for ‘months’ to secure another loan deal.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were said to be awaiting a ‘final decision’ from Everton and new manager Rafael Benitez.

The Blues paid an initial £25.1million to sign Kean from Juventus in 2019, but he only scored two goals in his debut season.

In an away game against Manchester United in December 2019, Kean suffered the ignominy of coming on a substitute only to be taken off again.

Fan feed The Toffee Blues posted a screenshot of Kean’s ‘like’, and here’s what supporters made of it.
